At least 33 people, the majority of them children, have died due to malnutrition in Gaza over the past 48 hours, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. This brings the total death toll from hunger since the Israel-Gaza war began in October 2023 to 101, with 80 of them being children.
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation, noting that even aid workers, including UNRWA staff, are now collapsing from hunger and exhaustion.
“Doctors, nurses, journalists, and humanitarian staff — many are fainting while trying to help others,” he said during a briefing in Geneva, highlighting how the crisis has reached a breaking point for both victims and caregivers.
