Singer and composer Amaal Mallik recently reflected on a painful moment from his personal life, sharing how he had to choose between love and self-respect.
In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, the 33-year-old musician spoke about a relationship that lasted from 2014 to 2019. He revealed that it ended because his partner’s family didn’t approve of his religious background or his career in the film industry.
“They didn’t want their daughter to be with someone from this industry,” he said.
Amaal shared that just before one of his live performances, he received a phone call from his then-girlfriend. She informed him that she was getting married, but was willing to elope with him if he agreed.
“I think the SRK from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge woke up inside me,” Amaal recalled. “I told her, if your parents can’t accept my religion or respect my career, then I wish you all the best.”
